Regenerative and anti-aging medicine is a new clinical field based on the use of advanced medical and scientific technologies for the early identification, the prevention and the treatment of dysfunctions, disorders and diseases related to aging.
90% of adults' diseases are associated to the degenerative processes of aging. These include cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, Alzheimer and many cancers.
The advances in biomedical research in fields such as genomics and molecular biology allow the development of personalized preventive and therapeutic programs that where unthinkable only 10 years ago. Space research has played a central role especially in the development of scientific approaches to the prevention of aging. In orbit without gravity that stimulates muscles and bones, without fresh air supporting detoxification, without sunlight generating vitamin D, without family support, without fresh food and without an atmosphere protecting against radiations, astronauts age at dramatic speed. What makes space research especially interesting for the study of aging is that many of these phenomena are reversible once the astronaut is back on Earth and involved in a proper rehabilitation program. Space research is in fact the only environment in which human aging can be studied both in its progression and regression.
ISMERIAN is the first and only center in the world laying its scientific foundations in this fascinating research field with the aim to offer to its patients the most advanced diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic methods.
